Dears friends members of Saab900 Special Editions Forum .
We are all here thanks to Orca who has had the great idea to create this place where we meet and talk together about our favorite car : The ultimate Saab 900 .
I have a dream : that we meet all in one place with our cars .
But the problem is that we are not neighbours . Indicate your location on the map ( click on the link ) to see if something is possible , OK ?

Any ideas ? Smile

This raises an interesting opportunity to use one of those online mapping services. I have tried quite a few, some unsatisfactory and some very good. Does anyone know of a really good service where we can all put a marker where we live? Frappr used to be good, but it's very US-centric.

Any ideas?

The other issue is that if we are too specific about our locations, we could be in danger of having our cars targetted by thieves. This is a very sad state of affairs, but certainly in the UK, car thieves use forum boards to find nice examples, steal them (or clone them) and commit their crimes Evil or Very Mad I suggest that if anyone wants to post where they live, they limit it to the centre of the town where they live, not their home address.

While we think about finding a good mapping tool (which I will post up as one of the pre-requisites for joining this forum board Wink ), how about we use this opportunity to say something about the town/city where we live.

1. Link the Wikipedia entry to your town/city
2. Show an interesting building ...
3. Say something interesting about the history ...
4. Name someone famous from your town/city
5. Name someone famous linked with our town/city (optional)

I'll go first!

1. Bradford, UK - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bradford

2. Of all the civic splendour that Victorian Bradford can show you, I will choose Rhodesway School. See: http://www.hays.com/jobs/rhodeswayschool/photos/pic4.jpg
... it's a very clean 1960s building, not dissimilar to a building known by one of our Estonian friends here Wink It's awful! I cannot find a good picture online, but the Museum of Modern Architecture in Brussels has a number of pictures of it, so it must be good Wink

3. Bradford is famous for its Parliamentarianism - Bradfordians are historically non-conformist and "do not take shit" Shocked Bradford stood against the crown (the King) during the English Civil War and had its walls removed as punishment (once sacked). Later, Bradford was instrumental in the formation of the Independent Labour Party (which ultimately became the Labour Party - Tony Blair's political party), so-called left-wing politics. The Jowett was built in Bradford and the site where the Jowett factory once stood is now a Police Station (aptly named, Jowett House).

4. Famous Bradfordians? Who likes music? New Model Army? Artists? David Hockney? You know, the guy who paints Dacshunds and swimming pools. How about Mohammed Ajeeb? The UK's first Asian Lord Mayor? Music, again? Kimberley Walsh, of the pop group Girl's Aloud (a personal friend of my step-daughter Laughing )

5. Famous people linked with my city? It's got the be the cricketer Imran Khan, who is the Chancellor of Bradford University. I think he's in jail in Pakistan, now, which is having some problems with what amounts to a military coup in that country. I know he lives in Pakistan and is a prominent politician there.

I do a right click on my browse and then choose the option which gives me the possibility to enter my name and even a photo .

I hope you'll succeed .

EDIT: and to Orcas suggestion http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tallinn You can find answers to most suggested topics there..Smile Maybe famous persons are a bit difficult part...

Read again..Smile I was/am logged in to google..;)

EDIT: aargh... stupid Google... it only allows placing marks on maps, what you have created by yourself... Evil or Very Mad

I can add your map to "My maps" but I still cannot place additional placemark there... Thats the whole mystery...

I can't wait to visit Tallinn - money has been tight recently, but we hope to visit in the next couple of years. I'm jealous about Grenoble - living in the lap of the Alps must be really nice.
