Well, I had a fantastic day ... the event was only about an hour's drive from where I live, so I had no excuse but to pop along. It was really good to spend the day with SAAB friends and meet some new friends, chat about the cars we love and ... well, chat about the cars we love. I was a day visitor, so I'm not partaking of the evening festivities ... maybe next year?

Anyway ... without further ado, here's my take on the day:

One of the first cars I made a bee-line for was this Turbo X. The owner said, "it just goes" ... no lag, no surge, no tramlining, no torque-steer ... just goes ... straight forward and bloomin' quick!

... and I got to sit in it, fire it up (whereupon it says, "Ready for take off!" on the dash) ... how awesome is that? I joked about driving off with it ... and nearly did ... for a Classic 900 pilot, this is like coming home 30 years later. My Lord! What a car! Well done SAAB!

... and I got this nice shot of the car, yearning for the skies

Some innovative wheel re-spraying ... yuk! or yum! depending on which side of the fence you sit ...

Engine bay detail ... courtesy of Lancashire SAAB Owner's Club Steve Alty (300 BHP Maptun Stage 3 ... the "no f***ing about Edition"):

The 'Design' Edition ... think Viggen, but without the logos, and probably a more rare car than the Viggen itself:

http://www.pjgh.co.uk/gallery_albums/soc_2008/DSCF8094.jpg

... the old ...

http://www.pjgh.co.uk/gallery_albums/soc_2008/DSCF8083.jpg

... with an innovative rear seat cover:

http://www.pjgh.co.uk/gallery_albums/soc_2008/DSCF8081.jpg

... and the new:

I got to be nice about a GM900 with it's owner Shocked I like this car ... a mid-200 BHP Abbottised NG900 which the owner has some good plans for. Currently running a chargecooler, he wants to move on to an FMIC:

... a nice 'Carlsson' Edition (albeit with aftermarket wheels):

Hey, I recognise that nice white 900 in the reflection Cool

... and some rally cars:

http://www.pjgh.co.uk/gallery_albums/soc_2008/DSCF8107.jpg

... and a nice 'Platana Gray' convertible - this is Ellie Wilson's lovely car:

http://www.pjgh.co.uk/gallery_albums/soc_2008/DSCF8108.jpg

... and you can just make out half a Sonett (rare for us in the UK) just on the LHS top of the picture. The white cars in this picture are mine (on the right) and fellow West Yorkshire SAABer Ady's in the middle (with the black numberplate).

It's white, alright:

... and finally, a nice 99 Turbo:

http://www.pjgh.co.uk/gallery_albums/soc_2008/DSCF8116.jpg

... and finally, finally ... there's some mischief hiding behind the front skirt of this car:

Even in England (I say England, although this was the GB SOC*), the Classic 900 is a rare car ... it is "quite something" to see another one on the road. There was a fantastic turn-out of Classic 900s at the show - certainly a good hundred, or so. There were only two (yes, TWO ... 2) GM900s Shocked Laughing

Great Britain (GB) is the mainland, consisting of the principalities of England, Scotland and Wales, as well as a number of outlying islands - the Isles of Scilly, the Isle of Wight, the Orkneys, the Shetlands and Anglesey, but not the Isle of Man. The United Kingdom (UK) is the "United Kingdoms" of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Again, the Crown dependencies of the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands do not form part of the UK, but they do form a federacy with the UK. Confused? You should try our "nationality" exams ... I wouldn't pass ... sorry Embarassed

I should know better, since I am half-Manx (my mother is a national of the Isle of Man) and as such gets quite a strict questioning when passing through customs on the UK aisles Shocked

Yeah ... there were some 96s ... great cars Twisted Evil Five door C900s with the glass missing? Yes, loads of those ... Oh ... white boxes sitting in the boot, you mean? Nope ... none of those Laughing

I still have to see one in the flesh. Apparently there are a few GB SOC members with Toppola conversions and a camping event is just the place to bring them ... but no ... none this time Crying or Very sad
