This weekend a kind of historic event took place. "Topponaut" from this Forum along with a friend, Jonas, arranged a gathering of C900 Convertibles and "B" engine 99 and C900 Turbos. The grand plan was to commemorate the two models that really put Saab on the maps worldwide, the Turbo fed "normal" car in great numbers, and then the Convertible which has turned into a modern classic and was a "must have" for all fancy and beautiful people of the 1980s.

The event is also a "re-run" of the pure C900 Convertible meet we hade in the same location back in 2004. 25 cars attended this already classic and almost mythical event. Pictures have been seen on this forum from this event.

I think its already safe to say the event last Sunday will be a classic gathering too. 16 C900 Convertibles, 10 99 Turbos and a number of other Saabs joined the event. Unfortunately not a single 900 with B-engine attended, they are simply very rare in Sweden. What made the gathering so special is the Ferry-ride. This time we didnt break the record with number of Saab Convertibles on one ferry, but the ferry was 100% loaded with Saabs, about 30 pcs and this is most likely a record too in modern times. Further the number of 10pcs 99T on one Ferry should be a record too - anyone else seen that recently? Razz
I doubt that many has been on one ferry since the late 1970s/early 80s when they were all shipped around the world on cargo ships.

The event had lunch and exhibition on the "Mauritzberg" Castle not very far from Norrköping, with a nice field to expose our cars, and a lovely environment to lunch in! The gods blessed us with lovely wheather all day, it was almost too hot. Not less than 3 MonteCarlo Convertibles attended, along with some lovely 99T and the famous "Cab No 1", Topponauts prototype flatnose Convertible that really shouldnt exist but luckily survived.

Here are some choosen pics from that event - more will follow later on. Enjoy!

NOTE: All pictures taken by Mikael / "MIOH" from Trollhättan who drives one of the LeMans blue cars!!! I have copied these pictures from the STCS forum with thanks to Mikael!

To be continued!!!! (its 30c hot and I dont have all pictures yet...)

(mine is the one with the ugly wheels... But I have fitted original ones now) The other two are a German and Belgian Imports, 1992 and 1993 respectively, so not the Ltd Edt models, but still very nice!

Hi Golfhunter,

Use this link and read about the car. There are two "posters" (first one is real big and the second a little bit smaller, you have to make it larger).

http://www.saab900.hu/download/saab900cabrio_proto_1985.pdf

Have a nice time reading it. Very Happy

In case you don´t remember, I send you an invitation to the meeting a couple of month ago:
//We´re having a meeting in Norrkoping/Sweden 28/6-2009.
All SAAB´s are wellcome. But the primary-models we want to expose is the 99 turbo/900 turbo (b-engine, 79-81) and the c900 convertible.

There w´ll be a scenery tour and lunch at a castle where we also having the exhibition. The scenery tour is placed by the coastline and it´s a very beautiful tour. We´ll cross the water by a ferry. (You can see a pic from an earlier meeting when we filled up the same ferry with only c900 verts in the link I´m posting below).

I know that the invitation is in swedish, but perhaps bablefish/yahoo will help?
//

Golfhunter, next time I´ll specially invite you, you can stay at my place.
We were a couple of friends that took the hole weekend for this event and barbequed and partyed at my place. (The sun, pool, drinks and the beers maked the party "fairly" ok).

Regards
Bernt

Hej Bernt ,

I thank you for your answer here Smile It's a great pleasure and your invitation is an honor . I'll do my best next time if my planning permit me to come .
I saw your awesome 900 in Ljungbyhed and filmed it.
Great memories , my first trip to Sweden with my 95V4 for my first Intsaab ....Imagine . The good old time .
I'll visit your link and will probably write an article about your collector for our blog with Etienne Morsa , my friend of Belgium .I'll keep you informed about it .
We can see on the photos that it was a very good sunny day .The best for cruising and saabing all together .
I'm sorry but I have a poor memory . And mix or sometimes forget messages I have received ......It's a shame . And I'm trying to find always new topics for the blog and hunt informations , photos , videos on the net .In short I loose myself in the middle of an ocean of infos , Emails ...
So I certainly did receive your invitation but don't recall exactly about it .I hope you'll apologize me for that
Embarassed Embarassed

Best ,

Jeff

It´s a bit easier to read in english I guess... Very Happy

Back in 2004 I arranged the first meeting with the scenery tour near Norrkoping. It went very well and many people talked about the meeting and pics were out on the net in different SAAB-forums. In 2004 there were only C900 verts at the meeting. I´ve seen pics from that meeting at this site to. We nearly filled a ferry with only C900 verts...

This year me and my friend Jonas wanted to to commemorate the two models that really put Saab on the maps worldwide, the 99/900 Turbo B-engine and the C900 Convertible. Why don´t repeat the meeting I had 2004?
That´s the history about this event.
Both times the weathergods have been with us and the days have been
fantastic.
Interesting facts, "Turbocab" has participated both time with two different cars. The first time with the white vert, and the second time with the yellow one.
But even the cars has been participated both time. The yellow car with the pre-owner before Turbocab (2004), and the white vert this last time with the guy that bought it from Turbocab (2009). The two cars is in excellent shape.

I hope more cars will join us in the future if I decide to repeat the meeting one more time.

//Bernt
