Hello All!!

I already have a lot of pictures at other forums, for ex. 900Aero.com, but i believe that forum is more or less dead so i will continue here instead Smile

In 2006 i bought a 1985 900 Aero/SPG/Turbo16S:

The engine has run 370000 km and the gearbox was not in perfect condition (more or less crap, hehe)

It will really take me too much time to say what has happend since the start in detail, but i have bought an insane and impressive collection of factory new parts which will really make this car in perfect condition. Just to mention a few ones (all parts below are factory new and never mounted on a car!)

- Engine (not new, has run 50 hours ;) )
- Whale-tail spoiler
- Leather interior
- Chromegrill
- Wheels
- Front/Rear lamps
- Doors
- Front/Rear bumpers
- Red dashboard
- Gearbox with 8th primary
- All emblems (SAAB hood, Turbo x 3, DOHC16, Saab trunk x 2)
- Aero dampers + springs
- Exhaust system for a MY84 (with rear part sprayed in black)

Well, that was just the biggest things i think, and i will concentrate this thread on the continued work on the weldering of the body. Sorry to say, the work is standing still for the moment and will do so for a month or two, but i still hope to make it for the Saab festival in 2009 Smile

On wash:

On blast (do you call it blast in english?)

At home we started inspect the chassi and we have a lot to do to! One of the two Z-beams has a hole, and we will take both of the off to easier clean up beneath. In the rear wheelhouses, we will need to take of the beams and replace the metal behind it. The jack supports are quite ok, but the not the metal behind them Smile So we need to take them off..

Has put on rust protection paint:

Now we know where the rust is, and next step is to clear up in the garage at my friend who will help me with the weldering, that is what takes all the time for the moment.. *sigh*

But if you waiting for something good...

Please ask me any questions, i will try to answer them! I will continue to give you pictures and informations as the project goes on.

Now i have started the first project thread, hopefully i inspire some of you to do the same Smile

BR,
Henrik

Awesome! Simply awesome!

As a sidenote, it is a shame about 900 Aero being a little slow, but I think we should continue to input into the forums over there whenever we can. 900 Aero is much more about the APC tuning and petrolhead culture than here, which is a celebration of the Classic 900 generally. I know Widde has a project cars forum over there and we both run the same software, so a simple copy and paste of submissions could easily be made.

Maybe we ought to merge? I'll try to catch Widde and see what he thinks.
Just a thought ... anyway ... carry on Wink

In this picture, the mirrors are heated:

... is that standard. There looks to be an extra wire - what does that connect to in the car? Are all Classic 900s pre-wired for heated mirrors, or is this a Scandinavian market thing?

You dont miss anything ;) The heated mirrors are only for US/CA! I found a wrecked US-spec c900 with only 70000 km on the meter. The heated mirrors are connected to the rear defroster button.

Personally i dont understand why we didnt have it in Sweden, here its cold all the time Sad

Wait, so you mean to say that the North American market one upped the rest of the world by having heated mirrors? Wink Laughing

Yepp ;)

Orca: The glass is the same as for the Saab 9000! So if you could get a pair of them i think you should be able to fit the cables thruh the mirror. Perhaps "good enough"

Today ive been out working on my 900 Turbo8 -89. Brakes mainly but also some other smaller issues. I will probably replace the generator tomorrow. I took a picture here together with my 9-3 Aero:

My Turbo8 has had the pleasure to borrow some things from my Flatnose until its completed, today it was the Wood steering wheel and the instrumentpanel sun protector (which i bought from Florida,US on eBay).
That steering wheel is really nice to drive with, i can assure you that Very Happy

I bought a kit of good rubber mats in black, but i really would like to have red ones.

Orca: If you see any good red mats please contact me immidately! Due to your "wrong" ;) steering wheel position, it should be able to find good red mats for the left-hand side in UK.

Now its barbecue time!

Laters!
/Henrik

A sun what? Hang on ... that's an accessory I've not seen before. Is it a SAAB original? Never mind ... can I post it on the weblog?

Red mats? No worries ... I'll keep my eyes peeled and ears to the ground.

That's a nice steering wheel. We have that design in our 'vert, but with the anodised black spokes. It came from Yame City, Japan which is quite fitting, since the car was originally a Far East market car. My steering wheel is on the right side, right! Left ... right ... wrong ... right Wink But we don't drive on the right side of the road because we're British ... we make the rules, dammit! Twisted Evil

I dont think its a Saab original accessory. I can take better pictures if you like, it fits really nice on the instrumetpanel. Go ahead and post it. Note the special form on the front left, im pretty sure it is because the US cars has there VIN-number there on a plate.

I would be really happy if you find red mats i good condition, and you seems to have a lot of contacts Smile

Nah! Nor me ... but I like it anyway ... more pictures, yes, please. A genuine SAAB part would have the logo and part number printed on it.

I will certainly look out for mats ... would 99 ones work? Maybe not the right shape. SAAB did loads of mats in various styles, but often they are looked on as just old. Red is rare ... I know getting a red interior (dash and seats) is quite sought after now ... for early T16S cars which are getting restored.

My garage has a treasure trove of stuff that they've not looked at for ten years, or so ... including C900 GL grilles, still in original packaging. They've just started to clear out some of the stuff in the actual garage and I've given them very strict instructions not to get rid of anything old/new/in good condition without asking me first. I'll ask to hunt around for mats when I see them on Tuesday.
