Hello everyone,
I just joined this forum today, and am a semi-regular on the Saab Central Forums and on the Saab Link forums. I thought I'd start of by posting a link to some pictures of my convertible. It started out life as a basic 900 turbo convertible, Cirrus White with Colorado Red leather interior, 15 spoke wheels (the normal.) I've since added a slightly modified Aero/SPG kit, Aero 92 directional three-spoke wheels from a 9000 CSE, and smoked side marker lights. Anyway, here is a link to the pictures. Enjoy!

| Hi there! Welcome aboard! You've got a very nice convertible there - I'm putting curly Aero wheels on our convertible as soon as they're refusrbished. |

Orca, thanks for the welcome and the compliments on the convertible. She's an ongoing project most recently receiving a new engine, and next she will going into my body shop to have the SPG panels refinished and a small spot of rust removed.
Can I get your opinion on something? In one of my older Saab books, there is a picture from the rear of a yellow T16S Aero convertible, to the right of the rear license plate on the black metal surface there is a little Aero badge. I've never seen it on any other "T16S Aero" model (convertible or hatchback) and was wondering if it was normal or if someone just dressed that particular car up. If you noticed, I stuck one in the same spot on my convertible, and was wondering what you think. Should I get rid of it or does it looks alright? _________________ Brad Lauzze

On some convertible models, there was a little square badge next to the number plate - it said "16 VALVE" with "16" in large letters and "VALVE" underneath. There was also a "DOHC 16" badge with "DOHC" in a strip across the top and large "16" numerals, making up the square.
The word "Aero" was never used in a badging (officially) on the Classic 900 (only the 'Swiss' Edition to my knowledge featured "Aero" as a dealer-made decal), but if you can scan or photograph the picture from the book I'd love to see it.
The badge you have used is from a 9000. Personally, I think it looks good. The US numberplates are a more square shape to European plates, so the badge fills out the gap nicely. I'd leave it there.
TBH, I have a set of brand new badges from the NG900 (they're plastic) that I was going to use on our convertible, showing "SAAB" (rondel) "900 S", which is the proper badging and then "Aero" underneath where the 16 VALVE badge is usually placed. I like it de-badged for now ... maybe I'll put them on later. |

Here's a link to the picture. Unfortunately my girlfriend has the book right now so I couldn't scan the full size image into the computer, but this is the exact same photo that is in my book.

Here you can see the turbo_S badge, (another badge that I'm hunting for) and down by the rear plate there is a small Aero badge. It's not very clear, but as soon as I get ahold of my girlfriend and get the book back, I'll get the larger picture scanned in and uploaded. _________________ Brad Lauzze

| How interesting! You're right ... that's the Aero badge from the 9000. Which book is it? |

It's on page 35 of Saab 900: A Swedish Story by Anders Tunberg. It's a big half page picture that shows everything very clearly. _________________ Brad Lauzze

Well the convertible had all of the bumper extensions and side skirts removed today for refinishing, I guess I'm done driving it for the year as winter will soon be upon us... _________________ Brad Lauzze

We're about to go into our first winter with our convertible. I hope she holds up ... I know a load of convertible drivers in the UK who are fine with it. UK winters are quite mild, really.
How is the trim to be re-finished? Are they being painted, or really well cleaned and the bodywork filled/cleaned? |

Not alot is being done to the actual body of the car, but the paint on the Aero kit is being stripped off and repainted. When it goes back on the car I will be replacing all of the rotted and cracked plastic and foam tape strips that line the edges with more durable 3M tape and the few remaining clips, screws and bolts that were missing from the kit when I got it have been ordered as well.
The winters here in Rochester are brutal and took a bad toll on my top last year for the week that I was dumb enough to drive it, so she'll be sleeping comfortable in my home garage for the next few months except for the handful of days when I'll bring her into work for a check-up to see how she is holding up.
And I finally got a turbo_S badge for my convertible on ebay.co.uk through one of the online stores. I paid a little more than I wanted to for it ($40 U.S.) but it will be well worth it having the only '90 T16S Aero convertible in the U.S. _________________ Brad Lauzze

Lovely pictures! White classic 900s with aero shields is so beautiful I looked at the Aero-badge on your car from the gallery link, and it sure looks like the 9000-badge |

It is in fact a 9000 Aero badge. If you look at one of my other posts, there is a picture of a Monte Carlo Yellow T16S Aero convertible with the same badge placed in the same spot. I saw it in a book that I have, and which inspired me to do it to my car.
Anyone who knows anything about C900s will spot it as a fake right away, as the T16S Aeros were not produced until '91 (mine is a '90,) Saab stopped using Colorado Red leather in '90, the T16S Aeros were never imported to the U.S. (with the exception of the '91 900 turbo SEs), and the Aero badge was never used on production models.
But for the average show goers, it will present something unique that they've never seen before, which is what I was going for. Everyone debadges these cars (a la SPG) but I wanted to make this unique, and I think that I have succeeded. _________________ Brad Lauzze

Thanks for the welcome, Golfhunter. I wrecked my T16S convertible last week, and thankfully my parts car had all of the parts that I needed to fix my car. I'm even more thankful that I had removed the Aero kit prior to the accident for refinishing. _________________ Brad Lauzze
