You know ... when I had a five door Classic 900, there was one thing I just didn't like about it. No, more than that, it offended me! I am talking about that silly piece of side stripe trim just behind the rear door in front of the rear wheel arch.

Why offended? Well, it was just poor design. It was a "fill in" and NOT the SAAB way.

I've just spotted this gold beauty on Flickr ...

... with that silly piece of trim removed, I think it looks much cleaner.

They did the same thing on the GM 900 and even the 9000. Result, an all too common place for the cars to prematurely rust out. I share your sentiments.

You relly notice details, dont you? I would never have thought of this if I hadnt seen this post. Looking at the Gold one, something is now missing actually... But thats me... Nice car the Gold one anyway, they are pretty much all gone here in Sweden. Did see a 2-door Gold yesterday, in poor condition, it was the first one in a year or so Ive seen... Sorry for OT...

Laughing

I guess it comes down to 'detailing' cars. I tend to look at cars in macro detail and often don't ever stand back to look at the whole car. My iPhoto is full of obscure inches of paintwork in high detail Embarassed

Yeah, I suppose the gold one does look like something is missing, but when you look at the side stripe at the front, it kind of works. I'd simply remove that rear piece if I got another 5 door.
